Dear
Buffalo Trail Families,
This
letter contains important information for the start of our 2021-2022 school
year.
First
of all, welcome back! I am ecstatic to be your new principal at Buffalo
Trail. For those of you that don’t know me, I was in the classroom for 16
years as a classroom teacher before having the privilege of serving as
assistant principal of Buffalo Trail. This last school year, I was the
assistant principal at Eastridge Community Elementary School. Somehow,
the stars aligned and I am coming ‘home’ to Buffalo Trail.
On
a personal level, I am married to Kevin and am the proud bonus mom to two boys:
Otto who will be a freshman at Washington State University this fall, and Gavin
who will be a senior at Littleton High School. We round out our crew with
three dogs: Penny, an eight-year-old min pin mix, Bella, a five year old cattle
dog/chihuahua mix, and Enzo, a two year old specialty mutt called a black mouth
cur. We are fans of traveling and this summer spent some time in
Rehoboth, Delaware with Kevin’s family. I am excited to see what the year
brings and am ready to lead and serve at Buffalo Trail! Below are some
important announcements regarding this school year. If you are a list
person like me, I have also included a table with times and events as well.
Meet and Greet
We
will be hosting a Meet and Greet open house on Friday, August 13th
from 4:30-6:00 pm. The Meet and Greet is a great time for you and your child to
check out their new classroom, meet their teacher and bring in their school
supplies. If you ordered an EduKit at the end of last school year through our
PTCO, they will be in the classroom before the first day of school.
Online Parent Forms and Class
Assignments
Each
year, all families are required to complete “Online Parent Forms” prior to the
first day of school. Online forms will be available starting on July 1st.
Your child’s name will not appear on any of our class lists until Online Parent
Forms are completed. Class assignments will be communicated to families who
have completed their parent forms on Thursday, August 12th by noon
for 1st - 5th grades only. Kindergarten students will spend time in each of our
kindergarten classes for the first 2 weeks of school. This will allow our
teachers time to get to know each of the students before assigning them to the
classes they will remain in for the rest of the school year. Please follow the

Staggered Start to the School Year
This
year we the start of school will be staggered. Monday, August 16th
will be the first day for grades 3, 4, and 5 only. Tuesday, August 17th
will be the first day for grades 1 and 2 only. School will begin on
Wednesday, August 18th for all students, grades K-5. Monday,
August 16th and Tuesday, August 17th kindergarten
teachers will be assessing students. If you have not signed your
kindergartener up for an Assessment Evaluation, please do so below.
Summer Office Hours
Office
hours for the week of July 26th and August 2nd are
8:00-4:00. Regular office hours of 7:30-4 resume the week of August 9th.

Early
Release Wednesdays
As
you saw from Dr. Siegfried's communication last spring, all Cherry Creek
elementary schools will have early release days every Wednesday at 1:45 pm to
enhance professional development and training opportunities for our elementary
teachers. By having this specific time set aside, there will be less of a need
to pull teachers out of the classroom during the day, which creates continuity
for students and less of a reliance on substitute teachers. With this change,
our elementary schools will still exceed the class time required by the
Colorado Department of Education. For families who participate in after-school
childcare, the after-school program will be extended every Wednesday at no
additional cost. For families who need care, you can register by contacting
